About Silk Road Traders
Silk Road Traders takes you along the ancient trade routes that linked China with the Mediterranean for about 1,500 years. Your camel caravan starts in Chang'an, where silk and tea are cheap, and travels west through the oasis town of Dunhuang, Kashgar near the jade rivers of Khotan, Samarkand with its paper makers and fast horses, Baghdad with its House of Wisdom and dates, and finally Constantinople, home of fine glassware.
In every market, goods are cheap where they are made and expensive far away, so the trick is to buy low, carry your crates a long way and sell high. Each camel carries two crates, every trip costs days and coins for food and water, and later journeys add bandits (hire guards to stop them) and sandstorms that slow you down. Anything still on your camels when the days run out sells for half price.
Eight journeys grow from a short trip between three cities to the whole road with every danger, and reaching the coin goals earns stars. Every new city adds a page to your traveller's journal with real facts, such as how silk comes from silkworms, how paper making spread west through Samarkand, and the painted caves near Dunhuang. It mixes history, geography and money sense.
