About Rhythm Reader
Rhythm Reader teaches the other half of reading music: rhythm. Two bars of real notation appear, with the words music teachers use under each note: ta for a crotchet, ti-ti for a pair of quavers, too-oo for a minim and shh for a rest. Tap Listen to hear how it goes, then Play it: four clicks count you in and you tap the big drum on every note, with the beat ticking along.
When the two bars are done, each note gets a coloured mark: green for Perfect (right on time), yellow for Good and red for Miss, and taps on rests count against you, so it pays to read carefully rather than drum all the time. Eight lessons add one note at a time: crotchets, rests, quavers, minims, semibreves, then a mix, then faster tempos. A playing line moves across the music so children learn to read ahead.
Three rhythms per lesson; 90% timing earns three stars and stars unlock new drum sounds (bongo, cowbell, claps). It works with taps or the space bar. A checking script makes sure every bar adds up to exactly four beats, every lesson uses all of its notes, and that drumming on every half-beat scores poorly.
