About Pyramid Builders
Pyramid Builders is a planning game about how the ancient Egyptians really built their pyramids. Each turn is one season of the Egyptian year: Akhet, when the Nile floods the fields and farmers are free to work on the pyramid; Peret, when they plant their crops; and Shemu, the harvest. You split your teams of workers between cutting blocks at the quarry, hauling them up the ramp on sledges, laying them on the pyramid, and baking bread, because every team has to eat.
There are seven real pyramids in the order they were built: Djoser's Step Pyramid at Saqqara, the Meidum Pyramid, the Bent and Red Pyramids of King Sneferu, the Great Pyramid of Khufu with its granite King's Chamber, Khafre's pyramid and Menkaure's pyramid with its red granite casing. The higher a pyramid gets, the longer the ramp and the slower the hauling, and granite from Aswan can only come down the Nile by boat in the flood season.
Finish before the pharaoh's reign ends, and finish faster for more stars. Stars earn deben, the Egyptian copper weight, to buy real tools such as copper chisels, wooden sledges, a zigzag ramp, cedar boats and the trick of pouring water on the sand to make sledges slide. A foreman suggests a plan each season, but clever planning beats it. Every pyramid adds a page of real facts to your journal. It mixes history with planning, rates and a little maths.
