About Free the X
Free the X is an algebra game. Every equation is a cage, and a creature is hiding inside the x. To set it free you have to get x on its own, like x = 4. Tap any part of the equation and the game shows the moves you can make with it, such as "Take away 3 from both sides", "Divide both sides by 2" or "Multiply out the brackets". Whatever you do to one side happens to the other side too, so the equation always stays balanced.
Your working is written out underneath like in a maths book, one line per step, and when x is free the game puts your answer back into the first equation to check that both sides really match. There are 30 levels in 6 worlds: taking away, minus numbers, dividing, x on both sides, fractions and brackets, ending with equations like 5(x - 1) = 3(x + 1).
Solve a level in the fewest possible moves for three stars. A robot searched every level to find the fewest moves, checked that every answer is a whole number, and checked that no move ever breaks the balance. A hint shows the best next move but costs a star, and every level you solve adds a creature to your album.
