About Checkmate Challenge
Checkmate Challenge is a set of chess puzzles. In every puzzle you play white and it is your move, and there is exactly one move that wins. Tap a piece to see where it can go, then tap the square. Checkmate means the black king is attacked and has no way out: no safe square, nothing to block with and nothing that can capture the attacker.
The first 15 puzzles are mate in one with only a few pieces. The next 15 give black defenders that can block or capture, so the obvious check often fails. The last 15 are mate in two: you make a move, the computer replies with its best defence, and then you deliver checkmate. In many of them the winning first move is a quiet move, not a check.
Every puzzle was made and checked by a chess engine that tries every move, so each one has exactly one solution. A wrong move is explained (not checkmate, the king can escape, or stalemate) and put back. A hint flashes the piece to move, but hints and wrong moves cost a star, and stars unlock new boards.
