About Time Zone Calls
Time Zone Calls teaches how time zones work. You have friends in 20 cities around the world, from Reykjavik and Lagos to Tokyo, Sydney and Honolulu. Because the Sun rises in the east, places to the east are ahead and places to the west are behind: when it is 9 am in London it is already 6 pm in Tokyo, but only 4 am in New York.
The lessons build up step by step: counting forward for the east, counting back for the west, going past midnight into tomorrow or yesterday, half-hour zones like India (5½ hours ahead) and Nepal (5 hours 45 minutes), and working out the difference when home is not London. A time ladder hint shows how many hours apart two places are, and each answer explains the sum.
Then the puzzles turn into calls: which friend is awake right now, between 8 am and 8 pm their time? And what time should you call so you are both awake? Every friend you reach sends a postcard for your collection. The game uses standard time and explains that summer time can move clocks by an hour.
