About Speed Race
Speed Race is a quick card game where there are no turns. You and a robot friend play at the same time onto two middle piles, and a card can go down only if it is one higher or one lower than the top card. A 7 can go on a 6 or an 8, and an Ace and a King count as neighbours. Your hand fills back up from your pile, and the first to use up all their cards wins.
The robots get faster race by race, from Sleepy Snail, who makes a move every few seconds, to Lightning Leo, who is very quick. In the first three races the cards that can be played glow green, so younger players learn to spot them; later races have no hints. If nobody can play, new cards are flipped onto the middle.
Spotting numbers that are one apart, fast, builds counting and number sense, and looking at two piles at once trains attention. Each race gives up to three stars: win for three, finish with five or fewer cards left for two. Robot speeds were tuned by simulation so the first races are friendly and the last is a real challenge.
