About Sorting Factory
Sorting Factory teaches one of the most important ideas in coding: conditionals. Shapes come down a conveyor belt, each with a colour (red, blue or yellow), a shape (circle, square or triangle) and a size (big or small). Your program is a short list of rules like IF colour is red THEN bin 1, ELSE bin 2, and you change it by tapping chips.
Just like real code, the robot checks the rules from the top and the first rule that is true decides; if none are true, ELSE decides. Later orders need more: ELSE IF for a third bin, IS NOT, AND when both checks must be true, and OR when either one is enough. Some orders tell you what goes in each bin, and others only show example shapes, so you have to work out the hidden rule like a detective. The examples are chosen so only the right rule fits them all.
Press Run and every kind of shape goes down the belt while the line of your program that decided it lights up. If something lands in the wrong bin, you are told which shape and where it should have gone, so you can debug your rules. Solve an order on the first run for three stars, and stars unlock new robot arms.
