About Solar System 3D
Solar System 3D is a model of the Sun and its eight planets that you can turn with your finger. The planets go round at different speeds, the closer ones faster, just like the real ones, and the Moon goes round Earth. Drag to look from the side or tap From above to see the orbits as circles, and Freeze stops everything so the little planets are easy to tap.
Ten missions of six questions ask you to find planets: by name, by clue (the one with the Great Red Spot, the one that spins on its side), by comparing them (the biggest, a planet with no moons, an ice giant), the planet that comes next going out from the Sun, and all eight in order. Every right answer unlocks a fact card in your Planet album, three for each planet, and Explore freely shows the names and opens each planet's page.
With red-green, red-blue or red-cyan 3D glasses the model floats in space: planets on the near side of their orbits come out of the screen and the far side goes deep inside. It plays in colour without glasses too. The How 3D works page explains how astronomers use the same idea, parallax, to measure the distance to stars. The model is not to scale, and a checking script confirms every fact the questions rely on.
