About Scam Spotter
Scam Spotter teaches kids to spot the tricks scammers use to get money, passwords and game items. Messages pop up on a pretend phone, from texts and emails to website pop-ups, ads and in-game chat. Read each one carefully, then decide: is it safe, or a scam? If you catch a scam, pick the clue that gave it away, and every message explains what to look for.
Eight cases cover the most common tricks: prizes for contests you never entered, asking for a password or a secret login code, scary deadlines, web addresses spelled to look like real ones, deals that are too good to be true, free game money for your login, payment in gift cards, people pretending to be family, and strangers who want to know where you live. About half the messages are perfectly safe, like a receipt, a school reminder or a message from Grandma, so you learn what normal looks like too.
Every company, game and website in the game is made up, but the tricks are real. Each solved case adds a golden rule to your rule book, such as never share a code and check web addresses letter by letter, and stars unlock new phone cases. The most important rule of all: if you are not sure about a message, don't tap anything and ask a grown-up.
