About Royal Game of Ur
The Royal Game of Ur was found in a royal tomb in the ancient city of Ur, in what is now Iraq. It is about 4,500 years old, and thanks to a clay tablet read by Irving Finkel of the British Museum, we know how it was played. This version uses his rules.
Throw four pyramid-shaped dice and count the white tips to see how far to move. Race your seven pieces along your own row, through the shared middle row (where you can knock rival pieces back to the start) and home. Land on a rosette to throw again; the middle rosette is a safe square.
