About Landform Explorer 3D
Landform Explorer 3D puts a 3D relief map in front of you: green lowlands, brown and white mountain tops, yellow beaches and blue sea. Each question asks you to find a landform on the map, for example 'Tap the volcano', and you tap it. A wrong tap is still useful: the game tells you what you tapped instead, so you learn that one too. Drag to turn the map and see it from another side.
Eight expeditions introduce nine landforms a few at a time: mountain, lake, island, volcano, river, plateau, peninsula, valley and bay. Later questions describe a landform instead of naming it, such as 'Tap the land with water all around it' or 'Tap the high land that is flat on top', which builds real understanding of what the words mean. Every landform you find goes into your atlas with a real example: Mount Everest, Lake Victoria, Mount Fuji, Italy's boot-shaped peninsula and the Bay of Bengal.
With red-green, red-blue or red-cyan 3D glasses mountains rise out of the screen, and you can see the crater of a volcano and the flat top of a plateau. It plays in colour without them. The maps are made fresh each time, and a checking script makes sure each landform really is the shape its name says: an island has sea all around, a lake has land all around, and a valley lies between two ridges.
