About Keyboard Hop 3D
Keyboard Hop 3D teaches children where the keys are, the first step of touch typing. A word appears at the top and a giant keyboard lies below it. Each time you type the right letter, Hopper the frog jumps onto that key; the next key pops up out of the keyboard and a hint names the finger that should press it, for example 'right pointer finger'. A wrong key flashes and counts as a slip, and the game tells you where the right key is.
Eight lessons build up the way typing teachers do it: the left home row (A S D F), the right home row (J K L ;), the whole home row, the top row, home and top together, the bottom row, all the letters, and finally long words like butterfly and xylophone. The F and J keys have little bumps, just like a real keyboard. Stars come from accuracy (97% right first time for three stars), and the end screen shows your speed in letters a minute. Stars unlock new hoppers: a bunny, a robot and a unicorn.
It works with a real keyboard, or on a phone or tablet by tapping the 3D keys. With red-green, red-blue or red-cyan 3D glasses the keyboard lies in front of you like one on a desk and the next key rises towards you; it plays in colour without them. A checking script makes sure every lesson only uses its own keys and practises all of them.
