HOW THEY WORK
The letters: I = 1, V = 5, X = 10, L = 50, C = 100, D = 500, M = 1000.
Big to small: add them up. VI = 5 + 1 = 6, XXV = 10 + 10 + 5 = 25.
A small letter before a bigger one is taken away: IV = 5 โ 1 = 4, IX = 9, XL = 40, XC = 90, CD = 400, CM = 900.
Never more than three of the same letter in a row: 4 is IV, not IIII.
To write a number, do the thousands, then hundreds, then tens, then ones: 1984 = M + CM + LXXX + IV = MCMLXXXIV.
No mistakes gets โญโญโญ. Each lesson you pass adds a piece to your villa.
