About Five in a Row
Five in a Row is called Gomoku (or gomokunarabe, "five in a row") in Japan, where it has been played with Go stones for hundreds of years. It is like a giant tic-tac-toe: take turns putting one stone on a crossing, and the first to make a line of five or more wins.
It is easy to learn but full of strategy. An open three (three in a row with both ends free) has to be blocked, or it becomes a four that cannot be stopped, and the best players make two threats at once. The players take turns going first, because going first is a big advantage.
Play the computer on easy, medium or hard, or a friend on the same device. Start on the small 9 by 9 board; wins unlock the full 15 by 15 board and new stones such as cats and dogs or stars and moons.
