About Firefly Jar
Firefly Jar trains visual-spatial memory, the kind of memory that holds a picture of where things are. Fireflies light up some squares of a glass jar for a moment, then go dark, and you tap the squares where they were. Get it right and another firefly joins in next round; miss and one flies away, so every player settles at their own level.
Each night brings a new twist. Golden fireflies glow among blue ones and only the gold ones count, which practises ignoring what you do not need. The spinning jar turns a quarter turn before you answer, so you must turn the picture in your mind. Two flashes show the fireflies in two groups, and the mirror jar asks for the left-right mirror image.
A tip in the game suggests seeing the fireflies as a shape, like a line or an L, which makes patterns easier to remember. Goals were set by simulating players with different memory spans, so a typical child reaches each night's goal and three stars need a sharper memory. Stars collect new jars.
