About Chord Builder
Chord Builder teaches the recipe behind the chords in almost every song. It starts with the smallest step in music, the half step from one key to the very next, and the whole step of two half steps, using a two-octave piano keyboard you can tap and hear.
Then come the recipes: a major chord is a root note, 4 half steps up, then 3 more, like C, E and G; a minor chord is 3 then 4, like A, C and E. You hear how changing just the middle note turns a bright, happy chord into a sad one, and later lessons add chords with black keys, such as D major with its F sharp, and naming chords from the lit-up keys.
A Count for me helper numbers the half steps from the root when you are stuck. Finishing the first lessons opens a jam pad with the four chords used in countless songs, I, V, vi and IV, and stars unlock new sounds like a music box, synth and strings.
