About Bot Coder
Bot Coder is a programming game in the tradition of Karel the Robot, the robot many university coding courses start with. You write a program by tapping commands: move, turn left, turn right, pick up a gem and put one down. Press RUN and watch the robot follow your program line by line, with the line it is running lit up.
Each chapter adds a real programming idea: repeat loops, while loops that run as long as a sensor is true (path ahead, wall ahead, gem here), if/else choices, and your own function that you write once and use again and again. From the while chapter on, most levels have two or three worlds of different sizes or shapes, and your ONE program has to solve all of them, so you cannot just remember a path. You have to find the rule that works everywhere, which is what real programmers do.
Fewer blocks earn more stars, and stars unlock new robots. A robot checked every level: each example program solves every world, and a path memorised for the first world always fails another one. The last chapter includes snake-shaped harvesting of whole fields and solving mazes with the right-hand rule.
